Impact of COVID-19 on Internal Migration and Labor Markets in Cities

As a part of its a multi-country study on the Impact of COVID-19 on Internal Migration, Labor Markets and Urbanization in cities, KNOMAD is compiling a survey-based database of the experience of internal migrants in cities during the pandemic. The India dataset is the first of a series. It is compiled from surveys of 2000 migrants in New Delhi and Mumbai to understand how their lives were affected during the course of the 20-month period when India experienced two deadly waves of pandemic. The India surveys were conducted in October-November 2021 and focus on how migrants coped with the economic and social challenges that emerged during the pandemic. Main topics covered: socio-economic charateristics, migration history, employment, access to healthcare, education, housing, transport and government response to COVID-19.
