When : Jul 08, 2016 Venue : MC 9-100Location : Washington DC Applicable Countries: United States

Event description:

On September 19, 2016, heads of state and senior government officials will convene at the United Nations in New York for a high-level meeting to address large movements of refugees and migrants, with the aim of bringing countries together behind a more humane and coordinated approach. In advance of the summit, Mr. David Donoghue, Permanent Representative of Ireland to the UN, who has been appointed as co-facilitator to lead consultations with Member States to prepare an outcome document will offer the current status of the preparations, discuss the zero draft outcome document and provide an overview of the different consultations with governments. Some of the outcomes to look for are: i) a Global Compact on Responsibility Sharing for Refugees; and ii) a process to develop a Global Compact for Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration. The two Global Compacts are not legally binding documents but rather commitments to work together to address specific issues related to refugees and migration.
