Call for Papers: East Asia & Pacific Migration Conference
When : Jun 10-12, 2024 Time : 9:00 AM (Bangkok Time) Location : Bangkok, Thailand

Event description:

The Social Protection and Jobs Global Practice, East Asia and the Pacific Region (EAP), the World Bank, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization - Asia and the Pacific, invites papers for the EAP Migration Conference (June 10-12, Bangkok, Thailand).

In particular, we are seeking papers about innovative solutions to challenges faced in migration policies and journeys.  Some of these challenges include discrepancies between observed migration policies and labor demand patterns (resulting, in part, in irregular migration), information asymmetry in job matching, skills and qualification recognition (for both high and low-skilled workers), remittance costs, collection, dissemination and use of migration-related data, and the negative social and economic impact and perceptions of migration. Examples of such solutions include, but are not limited to, digital badges, online job fairs, regulatory technology innovations (RegTech), digital job-matching and artificial intelligence (AI) platforms, fintech-powered remittance solutions, and online gig economies which would enable workers to serve foreign clients without physically crossing borders.

The conference will be held in a hybrid format in Bangkok, Thailand. The sessions will feature a ministerial keynote address, high-level policy panels, and presentations.

Key dates:

  • Conference: June 10 - 12, 2024
  • Deadline for submission: May 10, 2024

We strongly encourage the submission of high-quality and internationally publishable academic papers. Authors of accepted papers will be informed by email. We would be grateful if you could share this call for papers with other researchers and experts who might be interested.
